Iranian Studies Fund

  • The Iranian Studies Fund supports current expenditures on academic and cultural programs related to Iran.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) has a long history of training Iranian students in a variety of fields, supporting faculty’s research and teaching on Iran, and promoting cultural activities related to Iran. (See the University Library’s webpage extensively documenting this history: https://archives.library.illinois.edu/slc/iranian-illini/.) At the same time, scores of UIUC students (of Iranian heritage and otherwise) and members of the community have had the opportunity to learn about Iran’s multifaceted culture and language, hear masters of Iranian classical music play, and participate in Iranians’ cultural celebrations held on campus. In addition, many Illinois faculty members and students have organized conferences, symposia, and seminars about Iran, which have brought world-class scholars to our campus and community. Taken together, these activities have been instrumental in offering a broader and deeper understanding of various aspects of Iranian society for those interested in Iran and US-Iran relations. Maintaining and enhancing such activities are of great value at the present juncture, when constructive learning and exchanges among cultures are vitally needed.

The Iranian Studies Fund was created in 2010 through contributions collected for the Conference on Iran’s Economy that was held at the University of Chicago. Since then, the Fund has supported receptions and dinners for invited speakers and musicians covering topics related to Iran and Persian culture and society.
